OPI Month - Japanese Rose Garden

I don't think it's any big secret that pinks are not my favourite nail colour. However, I do own a significant number of pink polishes. Approximately 10% of my stash is pink (howwww does this happen?!). So, I definitely need to decide which pinks are worth keeping and which ones need a new home.

To continue with my OPI month, I picked out OPI Japanese Rose Garden to give another chance. The swatch pictures are reposts, but I'll add my commentary now:
  • Formula: Nice 2 coat formula. Surprisingly nice.
  • Colour: Reminds me of a tea-rose pink. It's rather subdued and conservative. I think it is flattering to my skin tone.
  • Finish: The silvery finish looked a little brush-strokey going on, but once dry, the shimmer is almost invisible indoors.

Overall, I have to say that I quite like this shade. Why I am so mean to pink in general? Eh. Keeping this one!

Comparison - OPI Sparrow Me the Drama vs. OPI Japanese Rose Garden : I originally thought SMtD would be very close to JRG, but I was quite wrong. I think I may prefer JRG to SMtD, now that I think about it.

In other news, I found out on Friday that I passed the exam I mentioned in April. Hooray! that means I have completed all the exams necessary for my accreditation! There are some online modules and other stuff I still need to do, but the hardest part is over! To celebrate, I purchased a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Tab :D I can't wait to play with it!

I was going to haul some polish, but I don't really have any lemmings right now, so I'm going to save that as a "get out of jail" free card for hauling haha.

Hope you guys had a great weekend!

OPI Month: Suzi Says Feng Shui

I kept OPI WWTC on for a couple days (I layered DS Sapphire over top), and decided the next OPI polish for me to re-wear was Suzi Says Feng Shui.

For some reason, I've only worn this shade maybe 2 times and I never really had an opinion about it. But after applying it today, I can say that the formula really is lovely (2 easy, smooth coats) and the colour is flattering on my skin tone. This is a keeper!

Sorry again that these pics are all re-posts! The comparisons mostly show how different it is from other polishes, hehe.

OPI Suzi Says Feng Shui - 2 coats. Zoya Breezi is a known dupe.

OPI Month: What's with the Cattitude?

These pics are a repost, so apologies if you've seen them already :)

Today I am wearing OPI What's with the Cattitude? (actually, I can't remember if there is a question mark in the name or not). It was one of the first OPIs I purchased, as I got into nail polish just when the Shrek collection was out.

The formula is pretty good for a pastel. I'm wearing 2 coats today, but I think for the pictures I used 3, since sometimes the flash reveals streaky spots that you don't see IRL.

OPI What's with the Cattitude

Essie Borrowed and Blue vs. OPI What's with the Cattitude? - The Essie is terribly unflattering on me. I'll need to decide if I want to keep or purge that one whenever I do my Essie-month! DBF bought it for me, though, so he is very defensive when I talk about purging it LOL.

OPI WWTC gives me lobster hands in most lighting, or at the very least, makes me look very tan, but I think I still like it. The name is super cute (I LOVE Puss in Boots in the Shrek movies!) and I don't have a lot of pastel blues, so I'm going to keep this one. I don't think I love it, but I'm sure I'll want to wear it again!

OPI Month: Dating a Royal (comparisons)

Today I am wearing OPI Dating a Royal, a dark blue jelly. I used 3 coats and have insane bubbling on my thumbs and a couple fingers, but I'm not sure if that was the polish or my topcoats need thinning. Either way, bubbles are super annoying!

I posted swatches of Dating a Royal quite a while ago, so in this post I'll show you some comparisons that I have done since then.

OPI Dating a Royal vs. American Apparel Cameo Blue - I absolutely love the AA. The formula is smooth and creamy, and it's really opaque. 2 coats of AA, 3 coats of OPI.

American Apparel Mount Royal vs. OPI Dating a Royal - Mount Royal is a bit closer to DaR than Cameo Blue, but it's a bit purpler.

Essie Mesmerize vs. OPI Dating a Royal - This Essie is quite opaque as well, at 2 coats.

American Apparel Cameo Blue, NYX Girls True Navy, OPI Dating a Royal - These are all kind of similar. Looking at this, I wonder if the NYX Girls is closer to AA Mount Royal. Maybe I should try that later.

Anyways, I'm not sure whether to keep or purge Dating a Royal. I might have to defer the decision for now. I think I am leaning towards purge, since I adore both the American Apparels and like the Essie one as well. I've already purged the NYX Girls. Ahhh... Why is it so hard to purge a polish?! lol!

OPI Month: Koala Bear-y

I hope you guys had a good (long) weekend!

DBF and I went up to Canada for a short visit. It was mostly time spent in the car, but we saw both of our folks for a day each. I kind of wish we stayed at home for the weekend, but we did manage to get a couple things we had left in our basements (a couple DDR games, my Planet Earth blurays, and some stuffed animals). We failed to make it to any store (I wanted to pick up a few more Joe Fresh polishes and a bottle of Soho from LCBO)!!

In the car, I read "A Visit From the Goon Squad" by Jennifer Egan and "Never Let Me Go" by Kazuo Ishiguro. I thoroughly enjoyed the first one (with exception to the last chapter, which I really disliked!) and did not really enjoy the second one (didn't like any of the characters; thought the "explanation" chapter near the end was forced). Oh well, they can't all be winners, can they? Any good book recommendations?

Anyway, for the month of July, I decided to wear my OPIs and decide if I wanted to keep or purge them.

First up is OPI Koala Bear-y. This polish is from the Australia collection and I mainly wanted it for its cute name XD

OPI Koala Bear-y - It's a hot "pink popsicle" colour with a great formula. I used 2 coats, but you can still see a tiny bit of VNL. I don't mind it though; it reminds me a bit of the Texas jellies, but much more opaque. I'm wearing this a pedi today, and it is definitely a keeper for me!

OPI Koala Bear-y vs. Zoya Dana - Here's a comparison with my other favourite hot pink. They look quite close in this picture, but Dana is a little less red and more opaque.

On my tips, I am wearing OPI Ecuadorable Coral. I've already shown you this polish here, but I thought it was worth noting that this one is also a keeper for me :)

I had a hard time getting dressed for work today, though, since corally-orange on my tips seemed to clash with everything I owned! So I am wearing two shades of boring grey :P
