Revlon Whimsical (3 coats over a light blue jelly franken)
It's very easy to make your own light blue jelly: it's 1/4 white creme and 3/4 clear, plus a few drops of blue creme until it suits your taste!
Ok, so I'm sure you have all seen a million comparisons to GitA, but I wanted to see it for myself! Here are my comparison pics:
Bottle shot
Here's 4 coats of each, no base:
and a close up on a nail wheel:
My thoughts:
- There are 3 sizes of glitter in these polishes: large hex, medium hex, and tiny circular (maybe hex, it's hard to tell).
- The largest hex glitter is the same in both polishes (light pink and blue)
- The medium hex glitter is the same size in both, but from what I can tell, GitA has both silver and pink medium glitter, while the Revlon only has silver.
- The smallest glitter is the same in both polishes; an iridescent glitter that shines aqua and violet.
- The glitter in the Revlon dupe is much more dense than in the DL.
- The blue jelly base is more opaque in the Revlon. This alters the colour of a base polish if you choose to layer it, though (for example, over Revlon Modern Grace)
Anyway, I hope you guys found this helpful and can get a bottle for yourself if you like it :) I found mine at Harmons Beauty Supply for $3.79. I've read that it's also been spotted at Kmarts!
genius! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the revlon which I have on my toes right now. It was hard to get the glitter to stay and I kept having to arrange them how I like 'em...tedious! And I used A LOT of coats. Very pretty polishes though. I forgot there was a DL like it.
ReplyDeleteI love these ones!!! They are so pretty!! Too bad I can't find Whimsical. :(
ReplyDeleteI nominated you for the Cute Blog Award. :Dhttp://artevolve.blogspot.com/2012/01/cute-blog-award.htmlI only added my blog link to show you to the page where I nominated you.
Fantastic comparison! I do like the Revlon better on the nail as well. I've never tried DL, but enjoy Revlon brushes so I am looking forward to stumbling across Whimsical!
ReplyDeleteAh, so dreamy! I love it! Why am I not gone to look for Whimsical yet? I love how it looks on your skin tone!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the swatches! I didn't know Revlon made a dupe of Wimsical so I'll keep a look-out for this one!
ReplyDeleteI still have to get the Revlon one, if only it would show up somewhere in my town :P
ReplyDeleteIt's strange...the Revlon looks a bit different on the nail, but on the nail wheel, it looks pretty similar. I mean, they're both pretty dupe-y. I think I'd rather have the Revlon (because of price, mostly). I saw this one a while back but I didn't pick it up - now I'm kicking myself that I didn't.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the awesome comparison! I'm gonna have to hunt this one down now (:
ReplyDeleteMy Kmart has the full display. I saw it there today with two bottles available. I actually didn't pick it up because this polish just doesn't do anything for me. Something about the milky quality reminds me of spoiled milk, but for those of you who are interested - yes, Kmart is carrying it.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I was happy I was able to get a dupe/backup of GITA! Seriously my favorite polish ever!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could find this in my area. Someone always seems to raid the Revlon display before I can get there! Thanks for the comparison swatches. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got the Revlon dupe, because I think it looks better :) ooops!
ReplyDeleteUgh, now I need Whimsical - I actually like it better than the DL!
ReplyDeleteHopefully it starts popping up at more places!
ReplyDelete^^ More glitter is always better, right?
ReplyDeleteHope you find it soon! :)
ReplyDeleteI think the thrill of finding it is what caused me to buy it -.-
ReplyDeleteThanks for confirming that it can be found at Kmart! :)
ReplyDeleteHope you come across it again, soon, then! I think it's a really nice polish. Maybe better for spring time though XD
ReplyDeleteHope it comes to town soon! :D
ReplyDeleteAll they need to do is dupe Across the Universe!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pauline! I think you could drive yourself crazy looking for this polish, so maybe it's better to just wait until you stumble upon it :D
ReplyDeleteHope you find it soon, Loodie! :D The Revlon brush is pretty decent, though, I'll give ya that!
ReplyDeleteEek, the link doesn't work!
ReplyDeleteYeah, these glitter polishes can be a bit finicky! Don't forget to use the foil method when you want to remove, otherwise you'll be scrubbing at your toes for a long while, haha!
ReplyDeleteGreat comparison! Both are so super pretty. I really need to find a display that has Whimsical. I keep finding the display but not finding Whimsical. *fingers crossed* :)
ReplyDeleteThis post is exactly what i needed! great comparison, thanks!!!
