I wore Illamasqua Fern and Essie Vermillionaire over the weekend (separate days!) and I was feeling the need for a palate cleanser to start the work week. I decided on one of my old "go-to" nudes, OPI Samoan Sand.
I am Chinese and my skin has a lot of yellow undertones, so most nudes are too pink for me (don't get me started on OPI Tickle My France-y!!!) I'm happy to report that Samoan Sand is one of the best nudes I've found (so far) for my skintone. Although it has a strong yellow base, it doesn't look unnatural because it is not totally opaque.
Here is the swatch that I think I've posted before: 3 coats, pretty good formula, imo.
And here is actually how I'm wearing it today: mattified
I saw a picture on NB of a matte nude and wanted to try it. I'm not totally sure how I feel about it. I think it looks different, but kind of weird. It is growing on me, though. Of course, I got some black lint in two of the nails (HOW DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN?!) so I am eyeing the remover already. LOL.
So, tell me what you think and what your go-to nude is. I need to keep searching for my perfect mannequin shade!

It looks really lovely. I am not a fan of neutrals, but matte it looks amazing.
ReplyDeletewow this looks amazing.. now I regret not purchasing this polish in a blog sale a while back :-P
ReplyDeleteI would never think to put a matte top coat on a nude, but it looks really awesome!
ReplyDeleteHave you tried any of the Zoya touch collection? I find Shay is perfect for my skintone.
....this reminds me of my Barbies' hands from when I was little! :-P
ReplyDeletethe first polish is so nice!
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda diggin' the matte Samoan Sand on you! It is weird...but cool :) I love the Zoya Touch collection for nudes. I haven't tried SS in years...your pics make me want to!
ReplyDeleteSamoan Sand was the first nude I ever bought, and one of the oldest polishes in my collection. It used to be my 'business trip' polish. Haven't worn it in ages and I think I need to!
ReplyDeletehaa im so intreged by the look of this, i have to say its an awsome change(:
ReplyDelete<3 BB
Interesting! I might try that! Have you looked at Zoya Minka?
ReplyDeleteHmm. I can't decide if it looks cool or creepy. O.o
ReplyDeleteThis is so super awesome matte!
ReplyDeleteAfter wearing it all day, I'm gunna say it's pretty cool :) Also.. I shaped my nails into ovals D:!!! I need to grow it out a bit before posting pics... and hopefully I don't break them all on my trip :p
ReplyDeleteTry itttt!! I did see the Zoya Touch collection at Ulta last weekend, and Minka was probably the best out of the 3 for me, but it was a bit too yellow in the bottle... I think. I haven't tried it on the nail, though.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I haven't worn it since I bought it, which is why I pulled it out yesterday! You should give it another spin.. for old times sake ;)
ReplyDeleteYou should re-wear SS again! :) And then matte it up and tell me if you like it on yourself!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, that's not creepy at all. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI saw the Zoya Touch collection in person, but none of them really jumped out at me. Maybe I need to try them on the nail, or get some spoons...
ReplyDeleteHaha, thankfully this polish is rather easy to find! I'm sure you'll have the opportunity to buy it again!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ruxi! :D
ReplyDeleteI love it mattified!
ReplyDeleteOvals, omg. Do you like it?? I want to seeeeeeee.
ReplyDeleteI love this! .....That is all
ReplyDeleteMan, I need a matte top coat! So cool!!!
ReplyDeleteI think this one looks gorgeous on you! It really suits your skin tone nicely. I haven't found a nude that suits me yet... I have to keep looking I guess!
ReplyDeleteI tagged you with some awards on my blog. hugs!
ReplyDeleteI did something similar the other day, with Barielle Buddha-ful. It took me a while to get over the creepiness too...matte nude looks pretty fleshy, I think that's the problem. But I liked it by the end of the day!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what it is, but the last few weeks I love nude/soft pinks alot. This one is great and matte it is very sweet and delicate
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog now for a pretty long time and maybe you followed mine on Melaniesnailpolish (The Color Palette), but I moved to a new blog that fits my ideas. Maybe you would like to take a look at www.thecolorpaletteblog.blogspot.comMaybe I see you there :)
wow, I would have never thought of mattifying a nude but it looks so original! I love it!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite nude is OPI It's sheer luck (it's NOT a sheer polish!) and I really like it!
btw, I did my post on Nfu Oh store if you wanna see it ;D
This is such a cool, edgy look. Really unique! <3
ReplyDeleteBeautiful nude, and I think it looks very cool matte.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THAT NAIL VARNISH!!! and your blog defo following please cheack mine out at littlemissvintagefashion.blogspot.com i'm just starting out out and would love to have some support x
ReplyDeleteIt's looks great mattified!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry you can't even see where this lint is, I bet you took this off already though lol.
oooh i love it mattified! my go to nude polish is cafe au late #220 by sally hansen salon effects i'm in love with it.. it weirdly matches my skintone perfectly
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I love this colour on you! I've been hearing more and more about it, so maybe it's time I got myself a bottle, right?! Secondly, and seeing as how I've been in a mattifying kind of groove lately, I actually like the weirdness of this mattified...something so unique about it. It also looks really close to Chanel's new Rose Caché with the Velvet Mat coat on top....so close!
ReplyDeleteHello . THIS IS SOOOOO beautiful. I went and bought this..and i LOVE this color. never loved a color so much....but it comes out very streaky. esp after 2 coats. first coat is almost translucent...but second coat to achieve the opaque color is streaky. What do you use as base coat? would any "top" coat used as base coat suffice ? please help !
ReplyDeleteOh I love the matt finish! cool!
ReplyDeletelove K

ReplyDeleteThis looks so good! Any tips for those of us cursed with paper-thin nails? I oil them and care ffor them but they they still split and tear. CBH
ReplyDeleteI actually prefer matte. It was hard to get used to for me too, but I think its such a nice change from the polish I normally wear. Still looking for the best one.
ReplyDeleteI always had the too-thin nails. Started using OPI Nail Envy according to package, and love the results! Hope it works!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the matte! It's absolutely perfect. I'm now officially obsessed with this mani and must start trying it out on myself. So understated, simple, and clean looking. Elegant but not old. Beautiful. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI WANT IT! WHERE TO DO YOU GET IT??
ReplyDeleteLove it. Like nude heels do for your legs, matte nude nails make your fingers look long
